D. Mitry was born in the former Soviet Union. In his early 20s, his plays were produced off-off Broadway in New York and at the Eugene O’Neill National Playwrights Conference.
Leaving a successful 17-year business career, D. Mitry launched into his dream of filmmaking in 2015. Since 2016, several of his short films have won numerous awards at international film festivals, including Best Film, Best Screenplay, and Best Director. D. Mitry's short “Shade of Music” was acquired by PBS where it ran successfully from 2016-2018.
In 2017, a fatal accident claimed the life of D.Mitry’s only 17 years old daughter, Alyssa. “After Alyssa's accident, I was in a state of complete shock. All I wanted to do was to be close to her again. It was then when the idea of My True Fairytale was born. " - D. Mitry
In February 2020, D. Mitry completed his first feature film dedicated to his daughter, “My True Fairytale.” He wrote, directed, and produced the film that was recently picked up by Circus Road Films and acquired for world-wide distribution by Gravitas Ventures.
